Snippet ~ Us

Today’s Snippet features characters from Perfect Fit, Singleton, Book #3. Enjoy!

From time to time there’s multi-part Snippet’s that go together. I think of it as a Snippet Serial and I name them. The below Snippet Serial Charisma Chronicles features the books at the time I wrote these Snippet’s that were available in my Singleton series. Eventually when books are released in the Singleton series an Snippet might be written and if it is it will be added to the Charisma Chronicles Snippet Serial. So this Snippet Serial is a continuous one (at my discretion/time permits).

Charisma Chronicles is a multi-part Snippet Serial and best read in order for the most enjoyment. They are usually in order of the Singleton series for which they are written about (unless otherwise noted).

This might be rough draft so excuse any typos and so on.

Spencer pressed the button and smiled as One by Mary J. Blige and U2 played. He sat down and relaxed on the couch. He wanted to forget all about the day he’d had at the hospital.

“Hard day.”

He glanced toward the door and spotted Reggie. No matter that they’d been childhood sweethearts and married for so long she still took his breath away. As he watched her he thought of the time they had been apart due to not communicating about their loss. He was so grateful that was behind them. Especially on days like this one when he needed her. Only she could soothe him and make when the world was shitty for it to be all right.

He didn’t reply just watched her. Reggie came to him. She was already in her home clothing so she’d been home a while. She sat beside him on the couch and pressed against his side. He slid his hand along her inner thigh and turned into her body. Reggie curled her arms around him and held him. Spencer closed his eyes and just let all that was her seep into him.

This was all he needed at this moment. Just being part of what made them an us.

The Power of Oatmeal

“Cooking for my man,” Bella belted out in her clear alto voice. “Making it so he can feed his hunger. Then we can feed another type of hunger.” She cackled then kept singing, making up lyrics.

Bella shimmied her hips while singing and cooking.

She sang loudly, “Give me some loving for the cooking.” She pivoted and held the spoon. “Oh yeah— Morgan.”

Morgan leaned against the kitchen doorway. Bella smiled and hurried over to him then kissed him thoroughly. He moaned. She pulled back and winked before she went back to the stove.

“More later.” Bella promised. “I was going to bring you breakfast in bed.”

“I missed you and your snoring.” He made a rattling snore in his throat. “It lulls me to sleep every time.”

“Yeah, yeah. You’ve told me that many many times.” Bella pointed the spoon at him. “You know a gentleman wouldn’t keep reminding me that I snore.”

“You sound good when you snore baby.” Morgan walked over to her and kissed her on the cheek.

“Hah, good man.” Bella winked. “You’re going to get lucky later.” She laughed and hummed under her breath.

“I would say ‘now’ and ‘let’s go’, but what you’re making smells amazing.” Morgan went closer. “And I know the power of oatmeal.” Morgan inhaled deeply. “I love that you make this for me. Thanks.”

“Awww…I have trained you well.” Bella patted him on the chest and continued to stir the pot.

“Tell me about the power of oatmeal again.” Morgan urged as he leaned on the counter next to her, close to the stove.

“Oatmeal is a thing for our family. As long I can remember there are many moments that become memories tied to it. No matter which or what we faced good, in between and bad the power of oatmeal got us through. I remember so many times when we were celebrating something, facing some obstacle or tragedy, and any number of things and the power of oatmeal helped.” Bella paused then smiled. “This is also true with many types of foods we make. But oatmeal is at the top. And as you know even when we get together with others sometimes there’s oatmeal.”

“Or you all ask for whoever it is to make you oatmeal.” Morgan stated. “Because —“

“It doesn’t taste the same when I make it.” Bella said it with him.

They chuckled.

“As I’ve said I trained you well.” Bella placed the spoon against the top of the pot. “When we were kids and even into adulthood we asked our parents, aunts and uncles and say that. It became sort of a refrain.”

“I can tell because I’ve seen it happen.” Morgan nodded. “And many people make it differently. I’ll be honest I wasn’t a fan before you. And your family. You all sure know how to make oatmeal.”

“It’s about the spices and flavoring.” Bella shook her head. “If you follow the back of the directions on oatmeal it doesn’t include all of that. That’s why most people think it’s so bland.” She grimaced. “It’s something you have to fix up just like you do anything else you cook.”

“True but I never thought of it that way.” Morgan shrugged. ”It was another thing I didn’t think of at least not until you.”

“Yep. And now that you know a good way to make oatmeal you make it for me to,” she kissed him on the cheek. “And you know and believe in the power of oatmeal.”

“Yes I do.” Morgan gathered the bowls.

As he held them she dished up the oatmeal.

“My mouth is watering.” Morgan said as he carried the bowls to the table.

“Mine too.” Bella grabbed the utensils.

They moved around the kitchen as they got the rest of their meal. They sat and looked at each other.

“You know you and your family have an interesting way of thinking of things.” Morgan brow furrowed. “You have the various power of things. Like the power of bread, the power of books, the power of tea, the power of movie, the power of sewing, the power of music, the power of games to just to name a few. I don’t even think I know them all.”

“You don’t but as time goes on you’ll know more of them.” Bella patted his hand.

Morgan turned his hand up and laced his fingers with hers. “And I’m looking forward to learning much more. For now let’s enjoy this moment with the power of oatmeal. And today is going to be a good one. A good moment that becomes a memory.”

“Yes.” Bella winked. “I’ve trained you so well to appreciate the power of oatmeal.”

Momentversary
A Singleton Snippet

Length: Snippet

Keenan looked at her as she moved. It was the same effortless way as when he had first seen her here. This early on a Saturday morning, Couric Park was not as busy as usual. The area was filled with other patrons of the park along with their family and friends they had invited. It looked like everyone was having a good time.

“This was a good idea.” Julianne bumped shoulders with him.

“You know I love seeing your rollerblade.” He bumped his shoulder against hers. “Besides you also know I love doing this day over again.”

“Yeah it’s the anniversary of the first time I asked you out.” Julianne laced her fingers with him as they skated beside each other. “It was right over there on that bench I asked you so nicely to go out with me.”

“Nicely huh.” Keenan chuckled. “And if I recall since I was sort of a gentleman I didn’t point out at that time you said you didn’t date.”

Without a word they headed to the bench. They sat as they had that day mirroring what they had done.

Julianne looked at him. “A gentleman wouldn’t have referred to my not dating comment from before.” Julianne replied.

The familiar words between them made him smile. Julianne smiled slyly.

“That’s why I said I’m sort of a gentleman.” Keenan laughed.

Julianne joined him then Keenan sobered. He ran a finger down her nose.

Julianne shivered. “Oh my God. Who knew the nose is an erogenous zone?”

“Is that what made you have that expression on your face that day?” Keenan blinked then smirked. “Being sort of a gentleman, I’m sort of old-fashioned. Even though you asked me out, I’ll pick you up for our date. Is seven tonight good?” Keenan whispered.

“Yes,” she said in an equally soft tone.

Julianne leaned closer to him and Keenan moved to meet her.

“And being sort of a lady, I’ll let you pick me up and even pay for the date. I might even let you kiss me after,” she stated, close to his lips.

“That’s good to know. But you assume that I kiss on the first date,” Keenan said in return.

She bit back a groan as his breath tickled her lips.

Clearing her throat, she replied, “We’ll see at the end of our date. Let’s skate.” She laughed then said. “But before we continue this trip down memory lane I have something for you.” She turned her body slightly and looked down.

Curious Keenan mirrored her then stilled. Shocked he stared at the decorative plate on the bench they sat on.

“Weather the hurricane together.” He read then looked at her. “And you have the date we meet and today’s the date of this year’s Momentversary.” Keenan cupped her cheeks. “I love you, Julianne.”

“I love you Keenan.” She sighed softly. “We’re weathering the hurricane together. And I look forward to many more years of doing that with you by my side.”

Keenan stood and pulled her up Julianne tipped her head back to meet his eyes.

“I’m looking forward to tonight. What should I wear?” She said continuing their walk down memory lane.

“Casual. And I’m looking forward to it, too.” Keenan ran his finger down her nose again, then reached past her and got her helmet.

He placed it on her head. Keenan slid his hand along her neck and pulled her braid over her shoulder, before moving down to the tip of her hair. His knuckles brushed the side of her breast, then continued to the side of her hip. She licked her lips and he kissed her. He released the end of her braid. She shivered. He chuckled soft and wicked. Julianne turned away from him and breathed out.

“Lord, the things this man makes me want me to do. Give me strength to not rip his clothes off. We’re in a park with my daughter, your niece, our family, our friends and so many more people who don’t need a show.” Julianne glanced at him. “And yes some of that is what I was thinking that day. You make me lose control.”

He saw her glance over to the girls as they almost reached them. Releasing another exhalation of air, she started to skate and he joined her.

“Don’t forget to take the picture.” The girls said simultaneously.

“What picture?” Keenan asked.

“For the anniversary thing.” Julianne’s daughter said.
“They really need to come up with a cool name for it.” His niece wrinkled her nose. “Maybe we should ask the others and work on that. We can’t leave it to the adults. They’d come up with something lame.”

The girls skated off.

“They know about that?” Keenan turned to Julianne.

“Just a sec.” She went back to the bench and took a picture before returning to him. “Yes. They were there as some of us spoke about some of you.” She finished what she was doing on her cell then looked at him pointedly. “Is all into this anniversary thing…not one anniversary since one is for the weak. But lots of little ones.”

Julianne nodded. “It’s a good sentiment…but the competitiveness of it is what caught the girls attention. And when I said I was doing this they were excited and suggested I jump in. This led to a whole lot of conversation among many of the family and friends. So it looks like this thing is going to get even bigger. Jackson tried to claim since we call things we celebrate Momentversary it couldn’t take part in this. But he was convinced by Iona ie she snarked at him. So no matter what people call it it counts for this. It serves Jackson right for starting this in the first place.”

His phone vibrated. Keenan pulled out his cell and saw the group text they had. His eyes widened as he noted the amount of people had increased.

“We’re so gonna need the tech folks to get that stuff set up. Jackson might be regretting getting this started. But then again this is all in his wheelhouse so he’s probably getting a kick out of it. Seeing as that it’s so many different people in different cities involved.” Keenan put his cell away. “Let’s continue enjoying our Momentversary.”

“Let’s.” Julianne think their fingers together.” I’m looking forward to us having that drive movie date again like we did on our first date.”

“I wonder what movie they will be playing today.” Keenan squeezed her hand. “Although it doesn’t matter since I’ll be with you. “

“I might have to pulled some strings …given a good bribe….so the same movie will be playing like our first date.” Julianne winked.

Keenan slid his arm around her waist. “Thanks for making this so special.”

“Every Momentversary with you is special. Here’s too many more.” Julianne vowed.

Noelle stepped into the house and was immediately captivated by the smell. “Mmmm… That smells so good.”

She set her things down on the entryway table, kicked off her shoes and walked towards the kitchen. When she entered she paused and smiled looking at the back of the man who had captured her heart.

“If I didn’t already love you I’d be worshiping you right now.” Noelle inhale deeply. “You so know how to get me going.”

“You worship me anyway.” Pierce chuckled. “And I do. There’s a saying about the stomach and heart.” He looked at her his pale grey eyes amused.

“There’s a reason they become sayings.” Noelle padded over to him. She leaned in and kissed him.

Pierce returned the kiss and put down the spoon he was using and cupped her cheek. “You look like you had an eventful day.”

“Such a polite way to say I look like crap.” Noelle rolled her eyes. “It seemed like everybody decided they wanted to do some kind of decorating or redecorating. Not to mention the ones I already have that I’m working on. Who decided to find something they want to all of a sudden change. That is after we’ve already finalized and agreed and all the things.” Noelle blew out a breath. “It was just one of those days. But now I’m home with you and about to be well fed.”

“If I didn’t know how much you love me. I’d think you’re only with me for the food.” Pierce stepped back and went back to stirring the pot.

“Well… You have other qualities that make my heart go pitter pat. “Noelle stepped back turned then noticed the package on the kitchen island. “Seeing this. I’m not so sure about the pitter.” She stared at horror at the package.

“No need to get nervous.”

“It’s not been long enough for me to be over the House of Pepto.” Noelle shuddered. “It might have brought us together but I’m not a fan of pink since then.”

“Yeah that pink on pink décor” Pierce shuddered also. “I’ll never forget it.” Pierce laughed. “Thank you so much for saving me from that.”

“I wonder which you appreciated more my decorating you out from the House of Pepto or us meeting and becoming a couple.” Noelle eyed him.

“Meeting you, of course.” Pierce smiled.

“Smart answer.” Noelle patted him on the back.

“Because if I hadn’t met you I wouldn’t have been decorated out of that House of Pepto.“ Pierce looked to her and winked.

“You should have left it just meeting me.” Noelle poked him in the back then chuckled. “Although I do understand your sentiment. That pink and pink still gives me nightmares.” She looked at the package again. “So why am I looking at a pink and pink for what looks like a gift with my name on it?”

“It’s just a nostalgic moment.” Pierce lowered the flame on the stove then turned to her before guiding her towards the kitchen island.

Noelle stared at the pink on pink which was beautiful and very tastefully wrapped but it was pink. “Why am I thinking someplace in your devious mind this is another one of those anniversary things? You know you and Jackson don’t need to compete on who can come up with the most anniversary celebration ideas.”

“He likes to say one anniversary is for the weak. And I would never tell him he was correct but he has a point.” Pierce pouted.

“Wow, I know how that pained you to say.” Noelle shook her head. “The two of you are a mess. It’s a good thing Iona and I have patience. So what’s this anniversary about? And I still wonder why you chose pink on pink to wrap the gift.”

“When you open it you’ll know which anniversary as well as the reasoning.” Pierce picked up the gift and put it in front of her.

Noelle looked at him then at the gift and opened it. She took great glee in ripping all the paper and ribbon off. It was like when she decorated the house. No more pink. Pink be gone. When she opened the box she pulled out the little figurine and the ornament.

“You got me a little bear and a replica of the House of Pepto. Although the outside wasn’t pink you made this one pink.” Noelle laughed delighted. “The little bear represents what your mom calls you. While the house represents the first time we met. So the anniversary is for our first meeting.”

“Although we didn’t get involved or date for a long time after that first meeting.” Pierce rubbed in the center of his chest. “I have very fond memories of that first meeting. “

“Me too. I hit you and kicked you in the head.” Noelle kissed him gently in the middle of the chest then on the side of his head.

“It was justified since a strange man came upon you in the house you thought was empty.” Pierce grinned sheepishly. “And I sort of ogled you. But you were so damn beautiful I totally forgot myself. But that fist and kick surley brought me to my senses.”

“Not for long.” Noelle said dryly. “Let me think once you found out I was a decorator you lost your mind again. And that lead to you giving me a helluva kiss. Then tried to bumble your way out of it by saying you were blinded by me being a decorator so you had to kiss me. Then tried to convince me to decorate the whole house although I was hired to do your parents part only.” Noelle narrowed her eyes. “You’re lucky you’re so cute.”

“Cute has gotten me out of a lot of trouble.“ Pierce said solemnly. “Thank you for taking pity on me that day. Then when we eventually got around to it, choosing me.”

“We chose each other.” Noelle leaned against him staring into his eyes. “You’re also delectable.”

“And now we’re back to the food.” Pierce laughed. “I was enamored with you from the start.”

“I’m not talking about the food but you’re delectable. You’re pleasing and delightful.” Noelle held the gifts. “And you give me so many sensory and mental pleasures. I was enamored with you from the start too. But I fought it. And in the end it was you who made me realize we were meant to be.”

“So we were meant to be delectable together.” Pierce nodded. “I thank each day for you in my life.”

“Me too.” Noelle studied the figurine and ornament. “I assume you want to take a picture to send to your anniversary competition buddy.”

“Already done.” Pierce smirked then snickered. “I might’ve gotten a little happy and sent it to a few other people.”

“What did you do?” Noelle sighed.

“There might be a few others joining in the whole anniversary competition thing.” Pierce said. “It wasn’t my fault. I just wanted to share because I thought the figurine and ornament had turned out so brilliant. I didn’t know that would trigger others to want to know more about what Jackson and I do. Then all of a sudden they started coming up with ideas to one up each other.”

“How many people did you send it to? And how did it ricochet into whatever that is?” Noelle asked.

“Ummm… Just a few here in Singleton…maybe. And some friends and other cities and I don’t know. I think people forwarded stuff to other people and then it became a whole thing. There’s mention of starting some kind of personal server thing to build a group for us. But when they started talking all that tech stuff I just left them to it.”

“There’s now going to be a group that specially built for this.” Noelle looked at him in disbelief.

Pierce pulled out his cell phone, unlocked it, and pulled up something before handing it to her. Noelle scrolled back and read some of the text messages. She didn’t look to see who was part of the chat. As she read she had to shake her head.

“You know I don’t want to know anymore.” Noelle handed him back his phone. “Maybe after you fed me or sometime in the future.”

“Remember I’m delectable.” Pierce took the phone and set it on the island.

“That’s what’s saving you right now.” Noelle sat and gestured. “Feed me. And let’s discuss a new subject. Any subject but this.”

Pierce went back to the stove. As he continued to prepare the food he wisely changed the subject.

Snippet ~ Mine

Today’s Snippet features characters from Unexpected Encounter, Singleton, Book #5.

Driscoll snuck inside the house closing the door cautiously so as to not alert anyone of his return. He turned then stifled a curse as he almost toppled over Reggie, his Siberian husky puppy and his kitten Vere— short for Guinevere. The two animals looked up at him and surprisingly they didn’t make any noise. It confused Driscoll for a moment but he took the opportunity to continue his plan. He put his finger to his lips and walked around them then moved stealthily across the foyer to the living room. The room was awash from the light on the humongous Christmas tree. Driscoll smirked as he went to the tree and pulled out the box from the bag he held. He left the bag fall to the floor as he went to place the gift under the tree.

“I thought we said we wouldn’t buy any more gifts for each other.” A woman’s melodious voice came from his left.

Driscoll jumped and looked to where the person had spoken and immediately he went hard as he viewed his wife. Just the idea of it made him feel all giddy. He was a married man to this woman. She was his. She was lounging on the couch with hat familiar twinkle in her hazel eyes that made him want to ravish her. The kinky curls of her reddish brown hair framed her rich honey-skinned face.

“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Driscoll turned and went to her still holding the box.

“Now that’d be a shame since I have plans for you later.” Lila lifted and eyebrow and smiled then looked at the box he was carrying. “Dris—“

“Yes I love you too.” Driscoll knelt by the couch she was laying on.

“Don’t try to dis—”

“Make you horny. Now why wouldn’t I do that. It’s my job as your husband.” He stressed the word and smiled.

“You love calling yourself that.” Lila ran her fingers down the side of his cheek. “And damn if I don’t love hearing you say it. Makes me want to tackle you and have my way with you.”

“A tackle is a way of expressing love. Give into the feeling often and with gusto.” Driscoll grinned. “Yeah no matter how many times I’ve said that I just love the sound of it. I definitely need to put that on a t-shirt and have you wear it so I can let everyone know what it means.” He wiggled his eyebrows and laughed.

“You and your t-shirts.” Lila laughed then bit her lip before she shifted and took a box from behind her back. “Here, open this now.”

“Now what was that about buying any more gifts for each other.” Driscoll took the box then handed over the one he held. “You take this and open it now.”

Lila took it and scooted up to sit with her back pressed against the arm of the couch. Driscoll sat in the space she made moving her legs and putting them in his lap. He focused on the box and opened it. He grinned at the gold color of the fabric in the box. It was his favorite color. He took out the t-shirt and read what it said.

A tackle is a way of expressing love. Give into the feeling often and with gusto.

The image on it depicted what the shift said perfectly. Driscoll laughed and glanced at Lila. “You got me a t-shirt.”

“And you got me a nightgown.” Lila held it up to her chest as she recited what it said. “Sometimes fate gives you a kick in the teeth and you need to just pay attention.” Lila smiled softly. “Thanks.”

It was what she’d said to him during the reception for their wedding less about a month earlier. “You’re welcome.” Driscoll leaned closer. “I have my t-shirt collection which is my memories of people. So I figured I’d get you started on your own memory collection of us but make it nightshirts. Something between you and me.”

“I like the sound of that.” Lila leaned in to meet him.

They kissed gently and Driscoll pulled back slightly. “Our first Christmas together. First of many.”

“Damn skippy buddy. This is forever…and if you ever try to leave me I’m gonna hunt you down and then tie you up and make you watch as I burn all your t-shirts.”

“Woman you don’t mess with a man and his t-shirts” Driscoll kissed her on the nose.

“If it is justified I will.” Lila stared into his eyes. “So since this is our first Christmas I’ll let you get away with your overbuying of gifts for me.”

“My overbuying!” Driscoll looked at the pile of presents under and each side of the tree then back at Lila. “My gifts are on the left side of the tree. I wonder who has the right?” He teased.

“This isn’t about me.” Lila glared playfully.

“It sure as hell is.” Driscoll kissed her gently.

“You’re spoiling me.” Lila said.

“Ditto. Again I wonder who is the mysterious person who bought all the gifts on the right side of the tree?” He chuckled the studied her before speaking again. “That’s what holiday’s are for. Spoiling those you love but not with the material things. With what is important—spending time with them and creating memories each year to remember for many years to come.”

“Dris.” Her voice got husky and her breath hitched.

Driscoll shifted and she spread her legs so he could fit between them then he leaned against her. “And that’s what we’re going to do this and every holiday.”

“Yes.”

“Mine.” He growled.

He kissed her deeply and counted his holiday blessings. This woman was his and he would show her each and every day how much he loved her. They would create memories to recall and share with their future kids.
