Today’s Snippet features characters from Anything Goes, Zander Oaks, Book #11. Enjoy!
From time to time there’s multi-part Snippet’s that go together. I think of it as a Snippet Serial and I name them. The below Snippet Serial Irresistible Effect features the books at the time I wrote these Snippet’s that were available in my Zander Oaks series. Eventually when books are released in the Zander Oaks series an Snippet might be written and if it is it will be added to the Irresistible Effect Snippet Serial. So this Snippet Serial is a continuous one (at my discretion/time permits).
Irresistible Effect is a multi-part Snippet Serial and best read in order for the most enjoyment. They are usually in order of the Zander Oaks series for which they are written about (unless otherwise noted).

“I must’ve been drunk when I thought this was a good idea.” Baldwin breathed in and out steadily.
He stared at the endless yet beautiful vista before him. Zander Oaks was a beautiful place yet at this moment he wasn’t appreciating the beauty. All his thoughts were on his burning calves.
“I regret ever thinking to do this.” He sighed. “Sinclair can never know.”
“Sinclair was right.” She snickered as she rode up on a bicycle next to him.
Baldwin stopped abruptly. “Where the hell did you come from?”
“Stopping so sudden will only make your legs hurt more.” Sinclair stopped and straddled her bicycle. “As for where I came from a magic. Whoooo.” Sinclair gestured. “Come on. Keep going. Seeing as you are insistent you needed to start running.” She mocked. “I need to exercise. I need to be active.”
“You know mocking the love of your life isn’t nice.” Baldwin started running again.
Sinclair paced along him riding her bike. “You already know I’m not nice.” She laughed. “You know there’s easier ways that running to get some exercise in. Much more fun ways.”
Baldwin saw the wicked look on her face. “Yes sex does burn a lot of energy.”
“Hell yeah. Especially if you’re doing it right.” Sinclair hooted. “And we do it right each and every time.”
“Stop weaving in and out in front of me. You’re going to make me fall.” Baldwin laughed.
“For how shaky you’re looking you’re not going to need any help.” Sinclair continued riding alongside him. “I estimate maybe another five minutes before you collapse. You do know no one decides to start running for exercise and just do it. Most people try to work up to it.” She shrugged. “Although I have no idea why. Some of my family and friends seems to like it. While the rest of us do this and heckle them.”
“Where the heck did you get a bike?” Baldwin blew out a breath. “I didn’t even know you had one.”
“There’s a lot of things you don’t know about me Mister MD.” Sinclair weaved back and forth in front of him then circled him. “Are you ready to admit defeat? Maybe finally listen to my idea for exercise.”
“You’re making me dizzy.”
“I’m not the one making you dizzy.” Sinclair snorted. “It’s all that blood from the exercise you suddenly decided you needed. It’s rushed into your head.”
“Fine. I should have thought it through before I decided to jump back into running for exercise.” Baldwin wheezed. “I used to run a lot. I didn’t have any idea I was so out of shape.”
“We both know you’re not out of shape. No one can just get up one day. And be like I’m going to run for miles. Not without having the stamina for it.” Sinclair shook her head. “We can work on building up your stamina. Then you can decide to start running.”
“And you’ll join me after we build up our stamina.” Baldwin said hopefully.
“Hell no.” Sinclair gestured to herself. “This does not run. This will ride on her bike next to you as she heckles you. Actually there might be a few of us heckling you.” Sinclair cackled. “As I mentioned some of my family as well as friends like running. You all could maybe come up with a weird people who like to run group. And those of us who know better will tag along and heckle you.”
“You do know heckling someone isn’t nice.”
“And as I’ve already said I’m not nice.” Sinclair rode next to him. “It’s our loving way of supporting you.”
“You are full of shit.” Baldwin slowed down.
“I know. But I said it without laughing so I’ll take that as a win.” Sinclair slowed down also. “I’m good.”
“What —“ Baldwin gaped as he spotted what was before him. “How the hell did you know to leave a bike here? How the hell did you make it this far without me seeing you leave a bike here? Then meet back up with me. Maybe you are magic.”
“I called someone.” Sinclair waved. “Thanks to all of you.”
Baldwin eyes widened as he saw a crowd of people coming from various directions.
“Did you have to call like everyone?” He glared at Sinclair.
“Yes I wanted them to see you admit your defeat.” Sinclair stopped her bike. “Now just admit that you got a little snippy with me earlier. When you mentioned exercise. You assumed when I said I had a suggestion I was about to tell you not to do it. So you got all defensive and blustery that you knew running would work for you. Instead of listening to my suggestion. Are you ready to listen now?” She held her hand against her ear.
“Yes.” Baldwin sighed. “I did get snippy with you.” He went to her and gently kissed her before saying. “What’s your suggestion?”
“Good job.” She patted him on the chest. “We can get a bike and do some riding together. At least until you build up some stamina. We can even have fun with it by joining some of these guys who like to run or jog while others bike. Of course you at least for now will be in the biking crew. You’ll have to heckle the runners. Just a friendly egging them on. Then once your stamina is built you can become one of the runners or joggers. And we can heckle you.” She poked him in the chest. “Instead of doing whatever you were trying to do.”
The group watching them laughed.
“That is all. “ Sinclair waved her hands.
She turned her bike and rode off leaving him.
“I think someone has some groveling to do.” Reuben his brother chuckled.
“I would suggest he use bribes.” Devlin, Sinclair’s sister who was dating his brother Ruben suggested.
“Sinclair isn’t easily bribed.” Turner Black muttered. “Damn woman is stubborn.”
“You’re just mad she turned you down.” Jaxx Coulter patted him on the shoulder.
“And you enjoyed it so much.” Turner glared at him.
“Of course you did. “Randall, Jaxx’s brother laughed.
“It was really funny.” Cheney Stone who was dating Randall joined him in laughing.
Turner flipped them all off.
The rest of the group started making suggestions of what he should do to get out of the doghouse with Sinclair. Baldwin ignored them and went to the bike that Sinclair had arranged for him to use. He got on the bike and then thought for a minute if he remembered how to ride.
“Do you need a refresher?” Tyler Lucas teased.
“Nah, my man has got this.” Zachary Doyle, who she as involved with glanced pointedly at Baldwin.
Joanna Watson who was a couple with Declan Holmes smirked at him while Declan snickered. He flipped them off then the rest of the group. Baldwin got on the bike and peddled off. He was grateful he didn’t make even more of a fool of himself.
“We look forward to you joining our heckler group.” Lexi Raines called after him.
Jonas Coulter who she was with rumbled. “The heckling no matter what you think isn’t motivational.”
“I want my bike back, Baldwin.” Seneca Morrow called after him. “Carlton you better make sure he gives me my bike back.”
Baldwin snickered as she threatened Carlton Thomas who she was involved with. He moved faster trying to catch up with Sinclair. When he saw her he figured she was deliberately not going fast so he could catch up. He hoped that meant she wasn’t to mad at him. Baldwin peddled up to join her. He didn’t say anything as they headed toward home. When they turned into their driveway he bit his lip. She hadn’t spoken and for her that wasn’t a good sign.
“I’m always glad to be in the pursuit of you.’ Baldwin got off the bike and put down the kickstand. “You have my heart and soul.”
He walked toward the house.
“Ohhhh…you bastard.” Sinclair called. “No using my emotions to get out of this.”
Baldwin snickered. Yeah she was softening. He planned to bake her something to sweeten her up. Maybe throw in some oatmeal, play her favorite music, read a book to her and watch one of her favorite movies. And this time he might not even make any snarky comments. As he went inside he planned.
